Hawthorn plant essence
Botanical name: Crataegus monogyna
Positive attribute: Heart, Love, Courage, protection
Negative indication: Fear, heartbreak, loneliness, grief
Primary quality: Balance
Hawthorn is a beautiful heart remedy and its leaves, flowers and fruit are all used. As an essence Hawthorn helps the heart, protecting it while also opening it to love, and we believe it helps you give out more love. It is also a great tree of courage. We have three Hawthorn trees on this property that I use to make medicine and tinctures with. Each tree has its own energy and personality and so this essence is a blend of the three trees:
#1 – the grandmother tree.
This tree is open and generous and abundant with her gifts. She has masses of leaves, berries and flowers every season. She leaves plenty of room for our three ducks to find shade under her. She does not prick you with her thorns when you gather any of her gifts. She's just a thoroughly good thing. I think of her energy as like a great big bosomy grandmother hug. So, when you need an arm around you, a loving hug a 'there there' pat on the shoulder, she's your woman.
#2 – the edgy tree
This tree is a bit of a prima donna. She is reasonably generous with her gifts when it suits her but will give you a nasty jab with one of her thorns if she feels she is being taken advantage of. This essence is great if you are feeling a little on edge and taken advantage of yourself. She recognises how that feels and will help bring perspective back into balance.
#3 – the hurting tree
This tree grows with her branches and thorns wrapped tightly around her as if protecting her heart. It is as if she is scared of letting anyone in. Her flowers and fruit are often meagre but her thorns are plenty. This essence is indicated for those with a deep or acute sense of grief or heartbreak.
